Artist Paints The Human Body In Ways You Cannot Imagine

Check out this artist named Alexa Meade. This painter paints people into backgrounds by painting over their features and breaking their highlights and shadows into chunks, more like paintings. She then photographs them and it looks like a 2-D surface, when in reality the people are just being melted into the background by her paint.

In some ways, artist Alexa Meade is a traditional figure painter. But she works on an unusual canvas: the actual human body. And she takes a classical concept — trompe l’oeil, the art of making a two-dimensional representation look three-dimensional — and turns it on its head. Her aim is to do the opposite, to collapse depth and make her living models into flat pictures.

Just like the famous trompe l’oeil, her work will certainly cause you to pause and look at little closer, such is the brilliance of its execution. Bold colours, characters that don’t seem real, but actually are and a sense of the surreal are just some of her trademarks on display. You’ll be pleased to know that many of her works are available for purchase and you can see the entire collection of her ongoing portrait series via her inspirational site.
